Tom Calarco is the author and editor of five books on the Underground Railroad, the latest, Places of the Underground Railroad, to be published by ABC-CLIO later this year. He also is the year 2008 winner of the Underground Railroad Free Press award for his contributions to the advancement of knowledge in the field of Underground Railroad history, which was primarily for his book, The Underground Railroad in the Adirondack Region, published in 2004 by McFarland and Company, which documented the existence of the Underground Railroad in eastern New York, moving it from legend to fact.
